The Characteristics and Reference of the EUCanada FTA
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 1-.
    Abstract648)            Save

CETA, as the first comprehensive FTA of Europe which embraces the investment chapter, was concluded after a lengthy ten years of negotiations, and came into an interim stage of entry into force on September 21, 2017. CETA covers dozens of hot issues of intellectual property, government procurement, cooperative supervision, financial services, environment, labor, trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and so on. It has the following characteristics: implementing the “singletrack system”certification method of origin and “PANEURO” rules of origin, introducing the TRIPsplus standards, improving the protection level of intellectual property, refining the standard of labor turnover and reforming the traditional investment dispute settlement system such as designing the investment court systems and further expanding the government procurement scope. Furthermore, it creatively put forward a series of new high standards of international trade and investment rules such as ICS and special protection term of patent, thus exerting great and farreaching influence on both contracting parties and international finance and trade. In contrast, the texts of bilateral FTA signed by China with other countries are relatively general and indistinct, especially in following aspects:the protection of geographical indications is not detailed enough; the classification of crossborder movements of natural persons is not scientific or reasonable, nor welltargeted, and the government procurement system calls for perfection. Therefore, it is necessary to reference the useful experience and rational elements of CETA in the following areas:reforming China’s rules of origin, expanding the proportion of enterprises' independent declarations of origin, enhancing both trade facilitation and the protection of origin, implementing special protection of geographical indications, adopting a stepbystep government procurement, adopting a market access system with different leniency and strictness in accordance with subareas and different subjects, promoting an indepth reform of the government procurement market, strengthening the connection with international high standards, establishing the ICS and so on. Considering China’s national conditions and practical needs, it is essential to construct a grand, coordinated and comprehensive “five in one” system of strategic objectives by implementing the FTA strategy on the mutually promoting international, regional, interregional, bilateral and domestic levels,so as to effectively respond to the challenges from the escalating ChinaUS trade war.

A Study on the Tort Liability for SelfDriving Vehicles
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 16-.
    Abstract900)            Save

The number of tort accidents caused by selfdriving vehicles increases with the wider application of artificial intelligence. The development of selfdriving vehicles is greatly restrained due to such challenges as avague legal status and difficulty in the application of traditional tort liability. Based on the internal rules of right evolution, it is recommended that selfdriving vehicles should be endowed with independent legal personality and we should make different tort liability rules in accordance with the purpose of use. For personal use, the loss of the infringed person should be paid in advance within the insurance limit. The portion that exceeds the insurance limit will be covered by private property and the liability should be determined in accordance with the liability of motor vehicle traffic accidents since the selfdriving vehicles should be deemed as responsible "drivers" who can further file a claim against designers, manufacturers, sellers or users for recovery. For public use, the amended enterprise liability should be applied to selfdriving traffic industry as a whole in the form of joint liability by a fund, but it does not rule out the situation in which individual entities take responsibility.

Film Industry Aesthetics: Realistic Backgrounds, Theoretical#br#  Resources and System Construction
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 32-.
    Abstract783)            Save

Film industry aesthetics is not only a rethinking of “what is a film”in the new era, but also“a toplevel design” of Chinese films, which integrates conceptual innovation, realistic demands and ontological significance in theoretical construction. Based on the current cinematic reality, film industry aesthetics aims at constructing a complementary, dialectical, integrated and comprehensive theoretical system with practical effect, attaching importance not only to industrial awareness, but more importantly, to aesthetic integrity and artistic quality. “Film industry aesthetics” is examined in terms of backgrounds, kernel and extended ideas, relations with other relevant theories and historical development, so as to further reveal its theoretical support, aesthetic principles and cultural backgrounds.

Rehistoricization of Film Industry Aesthetics:Archaeological#br#  Examination of Knowledge and Theoretical Reflection
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 44-.
    Abstract573)            Save

“Film industry aesthetics” is a hot theory put forward in the new era in response to new challenges and new opportunities. Anarchaeological examination of the knowledge of “film industry aesthetics” together with some theoretical reflection finds that the theoretical restraint is caused by the obscure research boundary, thus being stuck in a suspended state of middlewayseeking, wavering and compromising. To further develop the film industry aesthetics, we should adopt the method of “rehistoricization” to integrate film theories and cinematic history in the manner of mutual respect and negotiation, to establish appropriate standpoints of theoretical application, application domains and specific situations when texts disrupt. The solutions will answer the following question: How can Chinese film theories match with the new era?

In the context of “industrialization survival”, “technical survival” and “media or networked survival”, Chinese new mainstream movies are following or constructing a principle of “film industry aesthetics” from concept to practice. This paper explores the construction strategies and aesthetic representations of the “film industrial aesthetics” in Chinese new mainstream movies from three levels: story level, technological industry level and the level of film mechanism of operation, management and production. Based on a dialectical analysis, the paper explores the construction of a localized “Chinese film industry aesthetics” with Chinese characteristics. Its core idea should embody the concept of film industry, respect the cinematic artistic rules and cultural needs, and seek certain compromise or balance between art and business by tenaciously expressing appeals within the system while abiding by the production mechanism of film industry.

Reply to Geng Sikou, a collection of important letters written by Li Zhi to Geng Dingxiang for ideological debate, was revised twice by Li Zhi. The first revision was made into one lengthy letter by combining the seven letters together and collected into his monograph Fen Shu (the 1stEdition). The second revision, after a deletion of one third of contents, was collected into the second edition of the Feng Shu. As the study of the first revision including the reasons behind it was published in the author's another article, here the reasons of revision for the second revision are explored. The second revision took place in the background when the strained relationship between Li and Geng relaxed. Therefore, the fundamental ideas in the first revision were still kept while the sixth letter which was the harshest one and criticized Geng's personal integrity and his family affairs was deleted. The second revision reflects Li's tendency of adhering to his own ideas and his willingness to reconciliate with Geng. Asother articles in Fen Shu also witnessed complicated modifications, the study of the revision of the Reply to Geng Sikou can work as an important reference for the research of the revision of Fen Shu as a whole.

The Song of Mulan: The Time of Creation and Textual Canonization
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 74-.
    Abstract708)            Save

The time that The Song of Mulan was created is controversial, as there are six different versions: the Han Dynasty, the Northern Dynasties, the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Southern Dynasties, the Sui Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty. The Han Dynasty was excluded for lacking the support of historical events. The Northern Dynasties were too broad and general. The Southern Dynasties and the Sui Dynasty can be refuted due to insufficient data. The Tang Dynasty is not opted either without convincing evidence. Only the Northern Wei Dynasty matched the creation backgrounds of The Song of Mulan, but the connection to the poetry is yet to be proved. By assuring the location of Heishan and Yanshan recorded in the Song is the place where the war between the Norther Wei and Rouran Khaganate broke out, we can assert that The Song of Mulan was created during the Northern Wei Dynasty. A further literature comparison and emendation shows that The Song of Mulan had been constantly modified and embellished since its circulation and become a classic in Yuefu Poems edited by Guo Maoqian till Song Dynasty. Although there were modifications after the Song Dynasty, the canonized status of The Song of Mulan in Yuefu Poems could not be challenged.

Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (1): 112-.
    Abstract753)            Save

Artworks are artistic productions with strong personal characteristics of the artists. In addition to being artistic for appreciation, they can also be commodities with market value. The artwork market in China is increasingly thriving, but the supporting legal system is still insufficient and the art law is yet to be established as an independent department law. Artwork as the core conception of the art law, calls for clarification in terms of its legal boundary and the rights and interests attached to it. Artworks have original, economic and legal dimensions. From the legal aspect, an artwork is, first of all, a property under property law, and its property rights are protected. Nevertheless, the more important rights related to artistic works are copyrights and the rights of resale. In defining the conception of artwork, it is essential to discriminate relevant terms such as artistic work, cultural relic, fine art, cultural property, etc.

The impact of big data on sociological researches is so massive that a methodological turn or rather a statement of “The End of Theory” has occurred.  However, in the ontological perspective, the limitation of big data is that it over simplifies social life, thus ignoring or suspending its special historical meaning. The meaning declared by big data advocators refers to the objective and general meaning, which is a distorted interpretation. In addition, if more and more scholars are devoted to “computational sociology” or “new computational sociology”, a further disciplinary division will take place as a result. In this regard, we should uphold the essentials of the discipline such as theoretical significance and humanistic concern. In a nutshell, an urgent response to the big data era is necessary, which calls for “swimming against the stream” on the level of disciplinary reflection.

In the context of the difficulty in achieving critical breakthroughs in institutional reform, a viable strategy is to promote close justice and gradually improve the judicial ecology through technological changes such as judicial transparency.

Abstract: Interdisciplinary nature characterizes the postindustrial, postmodern, postdisciplinary intellectual environment. With the virtual and augmented technological development, the certainties offered by the traditional normative theories in the 20th century are lost in the new millennium world that appears to be no longer fully grounded on modernist assumptions or even material reality. It is of critical importance to know about disciplinary epistemologies, disciplinary histories and the paradigmatic evolution of film theories across different periods, contexts and conditions. This article critically examines some of these issues by applying the framework of "langue" (structure, form, schools, etc.) and "parole" (accent, style, anecdotes, etc.) as the major approach and analyzes "theme" ("langue" in the disciplinary sense) and "topic" ("parole" in the nondisciplinary sense)accordingly. Contrary to the modernistic and industrial teaching mode adopted by many current film academies, film textbased postmodernistic teaching mode refuses to take film theories as the explanatory framework. In addition, digital story telling approach attempts to remap the "langue" and "parole" scene by letting the "specactors" have the virtual, interactive experience.

Hegemony Change, Russian Revolution and the Evolution of the #br# Connotation of “Les damnés”——Revisiting “May Fourth” (I)
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (2): 43-.
    Abstract586)            Save
Abstract: This paper argues that both the turn of the New Cultural Movement and the outbreak of the patriotic May Fourth Movement were to some extent the consequences of the “European War” (World War I). The consequences were not only embodied in the victory of the Entente Countries over the Ally Countries, but also the superiority of “the 20th Century Civilization” to “the 19th Century Civilization”. Specifically, the “European War” marked the overall crisis of the 19th Century Civilization, while the “Russian Revolution” became the starting point of the 20th Century Civilization. Borrowing from Eric Hobsbawm’s historical division of the Short Twentieth Century and Giovanni Arrighi’s division of the Long Twentieth Century, the significance of the European War may be further interpreted as paving way for the “hegemony change” of capitalism, while the Russian Revolution may signify a breakthrough in the hegemony change. It is in this twofold perspective of “war” and “revolution” that the personnel of New Youth, represented by Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao, experienced a profound ideological transformation “from Wilson to Lenin”, attempting to connect the “new subjects” summoned up from the New Culture to the victorious subjects of the “les damnés” and “the subjects of history”, thus laying foundation for the transformation from abstract “human” to the concrete “people” in the postMay Fourth period.

Founded by German geologist Friedrich Ratzel in 1897, Political Geography was mainly about the relationship between national organism and geographical space and later developed into Geopolitics by his student Rudolf Kjellén.In other words, modern Geography resulted from great geographical discoveries, but took on features of nationalism at the end of 19th century. Thus, it may acquire both features of progressivism of the early modern period and Darwin's philosophy of evolutionism. Both features influenced Chinese people and constituted an important part of their outlook on the history of civilization in the late Qing Dynasty.

Abstract: As the information society is highly complex, a sketchy conceptualized thinking mode cannot fit in the complicated ontology. The right to personal information must be explained in a holistic approach with personality and property as the dual ownership and through constructing the right to personal information by embedding personality into property. Under the condition of a given personality element of personal information and with the environmental and external constraints in a series of events (labor and transaction), a set of new rights to personal information separates from other rights such as the right to privacy, right to personality and basic rights, thus generating a new form of rightright to personal information, with the aid of the State empowering and  functional deriving. The right to personal information includes the right to control personal information, public right, right to information property, right to be forgotten and residual right, with all these rights overlapping and sharing common ground. Due to the complicated strucutre of the right to personal information, the protection of personal information in China should combine the mixed legislature mode with the holistic legislature principles, aiming at an integrated legal structure with privacy law as the starting point, the economic law, administrative law and criminal law as the protection and the law of society as the guarantee. In this way, we may construct a legal system of personal informtion protection, which encourages the mobility of personal information while warding off potential huge risks involved.

Automated driving can be divided into highlevel automated driving and driverless driving. Since no automated driving vehicles can completely avoid accidents, we should fully respond to the challenges of automated driving through the legislation of Civil Code. First of all, in terms of product liability, the modifiers as the the producers of the automated driving vehicles should take full responsibility.Meanwhile, standards of reasonable consumers expectations should be referenced in judging product defects. The presumption of causation and the reversal of the burden of proof should be applied to automobile product liability. Nevertheless, the defense of development risks should not be applied. Secondly, traffic accident liability needs to be differentiated according to the types of automated driving. Producers and users have joint liability in highlevel automated driving vehicles while producers should take full responsibility for driverless vehicles. Finally, in auto insurance, automobile insurance is embodied in a unique threelayer structure, including compulsory insurance insured by the owner or custodian, the commercial automobile insurance insured by the user or the producer and the product liability insurance insured by the producer or seller.

Translation Studies as a new discipline both at home and abroad has made great progresses since the 1980s. However, the study of modern translation theories in China mainly focuses on European translation theories, leading to Eurocentrism, while few innovative translation theories have been put forward by Chinese scholars. This paper explores the reasons for Eurocentrism both in the west and in Chinese Translation Studies. In the west, Eurocentrism in Translation Studies is due to the fast development of western translation theories and English as a lingua franca, while in China, theoretical study of translation theories has not been given enough attention to because Chinese cultural tradition puts more emphasis on translation practice rather than translation theories. The paper argues that since Chinese translation tradition has its own unique features, Chinese translation scholars should carry out translation studies on the basis of Chinese translation activities so as to make its own contribution to the world. The author puts forward some suggestions to decenter Eurocentrism in Chinese translation studies in order to promote Chinese translation studies and enrich world translation theories in future.

The evolution reflects the differences in cultural psychology, theoretical context and research perspectives between the Oriental and Occidental cultures. Overseas Sinologists' preference for the subject matter of Li's works for translation and their research findings offer multiple perspectives, which can be referenced by domestic researchers. The paper concludes that the ultimate determinant of the canonization of Li's works is their universality and literary ontological value and domestic scholars and overseas sinologists can learn from each other in the process of mutual reference and eclecticism so as to open new spaces for academic dialogue.

Notes on Narrative as Medium and a Media Ecology Approach #br# to the Study of Storytelling

Storytelling, as a distinctively human characteristic, is a product of our capacity for language and symbolic communication. Just as language is considered a medium within the field of media ecology, so too can narrative be understood as a medium of communication, as well as a kind of language, and as a fundamentally social phenomenon. As a medium, narrative interacts with and is modified by other media, undergoing significant change as it is expressed through oral tradition, dramatic performance, written documents, and audiovisual media. In particular, major changes in the nature of character and plot accompany the shift from orality to literacy, and writing and especially printing make possible new forms of tragedy as opposed to comedy, prose as opposed to poetry, and fiction as opposed to nonfiction. Storytelling continues to mutate through the introduction of new media, with increasingly greater emphasis on narrative as an environment, especially one associated with social interaction and gaming.

The introduction of judicial interpretation of independent guarantees is an official recognition of the effectiveness of independent guarantees in China’s domestic market and a sign of establishing Chinese rules governing independent guarantees. The benefits of the interested parties and risk distribution mechanism have become the key to the interpretation of the new rules. The core function of independent guarantees is to replace deposits and guarantees. As far as interest and distribution mechanism are concerned, it accords with the basic principles of China’s civil and commercial laws. Although risks concentrate on principal debtors in basic transactions, they are still within normal market risks. Independent guarantee is weakly subordinated while highly independent, and should be a kind of “personal guarantee” parallel to “guarantee” in Chinese legal system. At present, the issuers of independent guarantees are limited to banks and nonbank financial institutions, and the wide applicability of independent guarantees is limited.

According to the judicial interpretation, issues like the identification of independent guarantees, fraud and remedies for independent guarantees and jurisdiction and legal application of independent guarantees are particularly important. To understand these three issues, we need to compare relevant issues with the United Nations Convention on Independent Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit, and take into account some typical cases in China’s judicial practice. We believe that the judicial interpretation should be modified in the following aspects: refining the qualifications of independent guarantees, clarifying the criteria for the identification of independent guarantees, adding provisions on the validity period of independent guarantees, and improving the provisions on fraud of independent guarantees. Ancient Chinese prose is not a stylistic concept like parallel prose or other popular essays. “Ancient”, equivalent to Chinese character gu, signifies classic elegance and standard correction. The purposes of ancient Chinese prose writing in Tang Dynasty contained the quest for elegant form by returning to the ancients on the one hand and standard correction by revealing truth thematically on the other hand. However, ancient Chinese prose had its own writing rules and principles, so writers in MidTang Dynasty were required not only to understand the differences between palaeoid Chinese and medieval Chinese, but also to obey the rules of pronunciation and grammar in palaeoid Chinese. Since writers failed to get away from the restrictions of their current ideologicalacademic traditions and social customs, they could only achieve breakthroughs in some styles but not all, thus hardly managing to challenge the popular essay styles of the times.

Du Fu’s travel poems reveal more spatial displacements and time sequences, thus acquiring a more “narrative” style. Among the travel poems, despite the fact that Du’s autobiographical poems still had the characteristics of ancient Yuefu narrative featured with essential means of summary and vague plots, narrative elements had been greatly strengthened, as was seen in consistent actors (roles), plot development and flow of time in these poems. Those poems reflecting wartime chaos had the least emotional expressions, while adding to objective “narrative” elements, thus to some extent reproducing real life scenarios instead of direct emotional expressions. The so called “historyrecording poems” were simply results of seemingly objective and neutral expressions brought about by Du Fu’s successful adoption of narrative strategies in his poems. Narrative brought a brandnew aesthetic experience to Du’s poems. It not only provided an internal necessity for plain Tang poetry language and explored new ways of poetic expressions, especially through the creative usage of “external focus perspective” in such poems as Officials in Xin’an County, Officials in Shihao Village, Separation after New Marriageand Old Age Departure, but also laid a foundation for the prosperity of narrative poetry in the MidTang Dynasty. Arendt’s ‘banality of evil’ has not only radically overturned the traditional thoughts about ‘radical evil’, but also pushed our thinking even deeper into the maze of this turbulent age. However, since her conception of “judgement” failed to respond to this tough problem, we have to turn to Levinas for further inspiration, especially his innovative argument about temporality. The temporal sequence in which temporality is connected to the totally alien future and the remnant scars of trauma provides both a premise for the philosophical principle of absolute separation and a real starting point for the perspective of radial evil. Precisely on this point, a strong resonance could be felt between Levinas and the recent rather radical version of posthumanism.

Microautonomy in Rural Revitalization: Triple Logic of History, Space and Reality
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (3): 85-95.
    Abstract855)            Save
The rural revitalization strategy is an essential policy of China's rural governance in the new era. Just as rural transformation is the result of the implementation of national policies, so are the changes in the mode of rural governance. As national and rural policies change from the resourcebased to the inputtype, the villager autonomy model embedded in the national governance system should also undergo corresponding changes. Micro autonomy, a new exploration of rural autonomy through empowerment to lower basic units, can stimulate the vitality of grassroots autonomy, thus being a useful supplement to village autonomy and of great significance to the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. Microautonomy as a system with historical foundation is a return to the natural space of village governance. But more importantly, it provides a subject base as well as action and platform support for the rural revitalization strategy.

Practical Experience and Policy Design of Big Data Agriculture in the Context of Rural Revitalization
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (3): 96-106.
    Abstract890)            Save
The Rural Revitalization Strategy ushers in a new era of agricultural modernization. As rural prosperity depends on the boom of agriculture, rural revitalization can only be achieved through the industrialization of agriculture. Big data technologies based on cloud computing create the possibility for process reengineering of agricultural industry chain and for revolutionary transformation of traditional agriculture. By comparing and analyzing the existing modes of practice, the paper suggests that we should push forward the development of the big data agriculture by taking the following measures: accelerating the agricultural big data system and infrastructure, advancing rural land circulation, adopting an appropriate scale management of rural land, building agricultural big data technology association and cultivating new farmers to meet with the new demands.

The Effects of Manager Team Characteristics on Hedge Fund Performance: Diversity of Opinions Or Group Shift?
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (3): 107-125.
    Abstract940)            Save
All of the hedge fund data and manager information in this paper are collected from China Hedge Fund Cloud database (CHFDB), Suntime database and Wind database ranging from January 2015 to March 2018 and manually compiled. We find that diversity has more impact on income, while group drift has more effect on risks. In addition, a management team with larger size, with women, with high degree of diversified business backgrounds and with highly diversified academic qualifications has higher returns, while a team consisting of “veterans and novices” has lower returns. What’s more, a team with veteran and overseas experiences has stronger risk control ability. Finally, fund managers with mutual fund working experiences have poorer returns and lower risk control capabilities.

Influencing Factors of Interest Rate Spread in the Issuance of Local Government Bonds
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (3): 126-140.
    Abstract562)            Save
Based on local government bonds issued during 2015-2017, this paper studies the factors affecting the interest rate spreads of local government bonds. The results show that rising financial gap and debt scale of local governments will lead to the increase of interest rate spread. In addition, bond maturity and Shibor rate are positively correlated to the spread of local government bonds while the proportion of the secondary industry and financial environment degree are negatively correlated. The results of subsample regression show that different types of local government bonds have different influencing factors. Specifically, revenue bonds are more sensitive to the fiscal situation of local governments than general obligation bonds; publicly issued government bonds are more sensitive to market conditions and fiscal situations than directional replacement bonds. Accordingly, we recommend accelerating the reform of the government accounting system, improving financial marketization degree, attracting diversified investment entities, improving the price mechanism and establishing a scientific assessment and risk management system for local government bonds.

Gender, Generation and Survivors of Domestic Violence:#br#  A Life History Study based on Two Generations of Abused Women#br#
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 14-27.
    Abstract827)            Save
The two generations of abused women in discussion had different interpretations of domestic violence and adopted different strategies to seek help and get divorces. The older group of abused women, mostly born  in patriarchal families soon after the founding of New China, had a fatalistic interpretation of domestic violence and had stayed in abusive relationships for many years. They would often seek help from neighbors, original families, working units, and the Women's Federation. The younger generation group, born after China's reform and opening up policy, were bettereducated and had a rather strong sense of gender equality and human rights. With "zero tolerance" of domestic violence, the latter preferred to call police or to seek medical help and psychological counseling when encountering domestic violence, and were rather determined to leave abusive relationships. We examine how gender, age, generation difference, social stratum and level of education influence the two generations of abused women and offer suggestions for female survivors of domestic violence according to their different needs.

Vocational School Girls in Perception of Structure: A Case Study of#br#  Qi Ming Secondary Technical School#br#
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 28-41.
    Abstract875)            Save
Vocational school girls' response to regulations, perception and coping logicis analyzed in two different approaches: body structure mode and body action mode in the perspective of the sociology of body. The study reveals that considering the shared identity as “poor students”, vocational schools no longer highlight students' academic performance, but focus on “rulesobeying” and “extracurricular activities”; Vocational schools set for students a foreseeable future, which is, however, rejected by vocational school girls who have their own career planning; Girls in vocational schools have perceived the school structural constraints, but have no power to defy them. As a result, they come out with two set of completely different coping strategies inside and outside schools. At school, they present themselves as “good girls”, abiding by school rules and regulations. Outside school, they appear to be “bad girls” who smoke, drink and have romance with “rogues” in bars and KTVs. They pin their hope on the outside of the school, longing for love, marriage and family. Hopefully, this study will bring a better understanding of the special group of vocational school girls.

Film as Libidinal Dispositif: Commentary on Lyotard's Film Philosophy
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 42-51.
    Abstract858)            Save
JeanFranois Lyotard's film philosophy stems from histheory of“libidinal economy” expounded in the 1970s. He presents the basic characteristics of the film as libidinal device by analyzing the representative space of theater and the division and the function of triple space. Back to the moving nature of cinema, Lyotard puts forward two types of film forms against the libidinal device: immobility and agitation in the experimental films and underground films. For feature films and historical essay films, excessive accumulation of the representations of reality will lead to the so called “metamorphose of seduction”. In Italian neorealism films, those shots of ordinary items such as pan that describe everyday experience will break through the authority of libidinal device and express the sovereignty of film oriented toward future.

Discretization and Superimposition: Derrida's Rhetoric on Cinema
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 52-60.
    Abstract1070)            Save
Though Derrida is not a typical film theorist, his thoughts on film experience echo his concepts in philosophy, literature and painting, which brings certain space to conceptualize the former: the superimpositions between belief and nonbelief, between the ghost of the past and the image of the present, between seeing and seeing seeing itself, and between the image and the voice in the cinema. In each layer of superimpositions, there remains a special kind of discretization, which leads different paths to overcoming subjectivity. Derrida's film theory embodies his style of thinking at this point, that is, constructing in a deconstructive way to maintain the fresh activity of film thinking itself.

Imagination and Intervention: Polyphony in Sartre’s Film Theory
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 61-71.
    Abstract1078)            Save
Sartre’s film theory was gradually enriched and improved with the advancement of his philosophical research and literary practice. The development of his film theory consists of three phases. In the first phase of “phenomenological psychology” in the 1930s, he started with “imaginaries”, pointing out their psychological and symbolic characteristics. During the second phase of “existentialism” in the 1940s, he held that imaginaries predated existence and generated the authenticity and meaning of the nature of life through superimposition. During the third phase of “Marxism” from the 1940s to the 1960s, he believed that the essence of film was speaking to the mass, so film production and dissemination acquires the features of industrialization and socialization.

Getting Organized and Improving Technology: Macromechanism and#br#  Field Practice of Agricultural Collectivization in New China
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 72-92.
    Abstract1106)            Save
After the founding of new China, the Communist Party of China committed itself to agricultural collectivization which became a practice of historic significance in the process of forming the Statefarmers relationship. From the mutual aid team to the elementary and advanced agricultural cooperatives, and then to people's communes, the vast rural areas gradually got organized and institutionalized through integration. By examining and analyzing the characteristics of this particular phase of agricultural collectivization and its impact, this paper reveals that getting organized and improving technology as a macro mechanism to achieve collectivization not only enables the explicit agricultural revolution to unfold unceasingly, but also provides an important institutional foundation for rural socialism after 1949.

Popularization and Reconstruction of the Ethical World: The Marriage of Young Blacky as a “New Enlightenment” Story#br#
Journal of Shanghai University (Social Science Edition)    2019, 36 (4): 93-99.
    Abstract1123)            Save
Zhao Shuli regarded the popularization movement of arts and literature which he vigorously advocated since 1941 as a major channel of “cultural popularization” and a part of the New Enlightenment Movement, thus realizing “new enlightenment” for “cultural popularization”. That the enlightenment was deemed as “new” is due to the fact that, compared with the May 4th Enlightenment, this enlightenment resorted to the awakening of people, the consciousness of the masses and to be more exact, the consciousness of the masses as the masses, so that a new ethical world could be established in real life. “Cultural Popularization” means not only that culture becomes the culture of the masses, but also that the masses become the masses themselves through culture. The Marriage of Young Blacky, a product of Zhao Shuli's popularization practice, is a popular story and more of a new enlightenment story. Blacky and Qin were naturally enlightened in the process of “falling in love” and had to rebuild a new ethical world from the disintegrated rural order, a world consisting in two parts: nature and law.
