Abstract:  After the founding of new China, the Communist Party of China committed itself to agricultural collectivization which became a practice of historic significance in the process of forming the Statefarmers relationship. From the mutual aid team to the elementary and advanced agricultural cooperatives, and then to people's communes, the vast rural areas gradually got organized and institutionalized through integration. By examining and analyzing the characteristics of this particular phase of agricultural collectivization and its impact, this paper reveals that getting organized and improving technology as a macro mechanism to achieve collectivization not only enables the explicit agricultural revolution to unfold unceasingly, but also provides an important institutional foundation for rural socialism after 1949.
