Abstract:  Zhao Shuli regarded the popularization movement of arts and literature which he vigorously advocated since 1941 as a major channel of “cultural popularization” and a part of the New Enlightenment Movement, thus realizing “new enlightenment” for “cultural popularization”. That the enlightenment was deemed as “new” is due to the fact that, compared with the May 4th Enlightenment, this enlightenment resorted to the awakening of people, the consciousness of the masses and to be more exact, the consciousness of the masses as the masses, so that a new ethical world could be established in real life. “Cultural Popularization” means not only that culture becomes the culture of the masses, but also that the masses become the masses themselves through culture. The Marriage of Young Blacky, a product of Zhao Shuli's popularization practice, is a popular story and more of a new enlightenment story. Blacky and Qin were naturally enlightened in the process of “falling in love” and had to rebuild a new ethical world from the disintegrated rural order, a world consisting in two parts: nature and law.
