On “Circumstanceoriented Theory” in Classical Poetics

摘要: “意境说”并不能包容诗歌的所有特质,在面对古典诗歌注重纪实与叙事的这条传统时,我们应拥有与“意境说”不同的阐释工具。经由明清诗学的酝酿,尤其是翁方纲、方东树等人的运用,“事境说”逐渐得以凸显。“事境说”反映着古典诗学中的一条重要思路,即对“事”这一要素的重视和思考,是古典诗学对“事”的正面应对。以古典诗学中的“事境说”为基础,进而建构“事境说”的现代学术体系,是值得努力的方向。

Abstract:  “Poetic imagery theory” can by no means account for all features in poetry. This is particularly true when the tradition of onthespot recording and narration is emphasized in classical poetry, thus calling for a different interpretive tool. “Circumstanceoriented theory” gained gradual prominence after the brewing of poetics in Ming and Qing Dynasties and especially after the employment by figures like Weng Fanggang and Fang Dongshu. “Circumstanceoriented theory” reflects an important train of thought in classical poetics which highlights and reflects on “circumstance”, and address “circumstance” head on. Therefore, it is worthwhile to construct contemporary academic system of “circumstanceoriented theory” based on its development in classical poetics.
