Cold War Mentality and the Construction of
Aliens in American Science Fiction Films

摘要： 美国科幻片中的外星人建构可以大致分为三个时期：1960年代之前的外星人，除了个别的例子之外，基本上被表现为侵略者、敌人，这显然是受到了冷战思维的影响。1970至1980年代的外星人大多数都表现得善意和友好，这与美国1960年代的文化变革运动和越南战争的结束关系密切，世界电影在那个时代都具有反传统和反思的特点。1990年代之后的外星人表现有两个特点，一是延续前一时期善良无害外星人的传统，并有所发展，表现外星人中有好的也有坏的。二是回到1960年代之前的表现，简单地将外星人描写成他者、敌人。这一回潮与冷战的结束有关，作为超级大国的美国需要寻找新的敌人，有些影片甚至把矛头指向了中国。

Abstract: The construction of aliens in American science fictions can be roughly divided into three periods: the aliens in films before 1960s are basically characterized as invaders or enemies, which clearly mirrored cold war mentality; most aliens in films between the 1970s and 1980s aliens were described as kind and friendly, which was the result of the cultural revolution movement in America and the end of the Vietnam war; the aliens in films after 1990s tend to be depicted either as kind or as hostile, which is due to the need of the United States to have new enemies after the cold war.
