亚当·斯密《道德情感论》中的仁论

摘要: 亚当·斯密的《道德情感论》把道德理论建基于人类的同感(sympathy),这种诉诸自然人情而非抽象理性的取向与儒家仁论非常相似。有学者指出,亚当斯密可能受到孟子的影响,但未详言。以亚当·斯密的学术交游为始点,探讨书中论点与儒家仁论的会通,涉及以下各点:同感(仁)、推己及人、以自然感情作道德标准、应然义的“人”、无待于外的内在价值、天道、普世价值等。

Abstract: In The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Adam Smith founded his ethics on "sympathy", an approach appealing to the affective rather than the rational domain. Being so similar to that of ren in Confucism, it has been noted by scholars that Adam Smith may be under the influence of Mencius. Starting from tracing the academic links of Adam Smith, this article attempts to explore the convergence of his theory and ren of Confucism, which include: sympathy(ren), do to others as you would like others to do to you, natural human affection as moral standard, man as one should be, self-sufficient internal value, Nature, universal value, etc.
