Abstract: IntheConfuciantradition,politicalidealsarenotmerelyabstractconcepts;rather,theyare embodiedintheconcreterealitiesofdailylife.InBookofRites,theidealConfucianpoliticalorderisactual izedinthenormsofeverydaylife.Thenormsforbothcommonpeopleandofficialsgivefullexpressiontothe Confucianhierarchiesandpoliticalorder.This"lifepolitics"paradigmreflectsthedualfeatureofConfucian politicalphilosophy:lifeispoliticizedwhileatthesametimepoliticsisexperiencedasdailylife.This paradigmhasbothpositiveandnegativeeffects.Sincethepoliticalidealsoftherulingclasscanbeeffectively embodiedinthepolity'sdailylife,itiseasytoachieveorder,institutionalizationandstandardizationinthe society.Indoingso,however,rulesandnormsmightalsodegenerateintorigiddogmas,whichwouldinhibit socialvitalityandprogressandreducethediversity,richness,andeventhefreedomoflife.
