Abstract: For the classification of social stratum in today’s China, Marx’s theory of social classes should still be suitable. But Weber’s theory on social stratum provides another viewpoint. The author tries to apply the ownership of rare productive factors to the interpretation of the situation and inter-relation of Chinese classes today. He thinks that, while class polarization or contradiction is not sure to produce class antagonism, class co-operation becomes a reasonable choice.
Key words: stratum, classes, rare productive factors, social classification
