Abstract:

As a branch of South Korea' s contemporary film creation, South Korea' s religious film participates in its modern transformation of contemporary social culture and national collective psychology, and also features the expressive theme and transAsian aesthetics, which are different from the classic religious film in the Western countries. This essay, based on the thematic expressive degree, has a classification of South Korea' s contemporary film of religious topics, generalizing three aesthetic characteristics: (1) the highpure allegorization of religious films; (2) the popularization of religious topics; (3) the reflection on the national identity surrounding the religious faith in the context of reality. As an epitome of the Western contemporary culture in the area of transAsia, South Korea' s religious films continuously strengthen their national subjectivity and emotional value, the diversified aesthetic form of which provides a visual field of comparative study.
