Abstract: Traditional Chinese painter Xu Xi, grandson of Xu Wen, father of Xu Chongsi, was born in Jin Ling, in the Southern Tang Kingdom of Five Dynasties period. Xu Xi was so good at birdandflower paintings that he was unprecedented ever since. The paper studies Xu's special painting skill, LuoMo (ink wash) style, and finds out that Xu Xi did not outline a shape by strong black lines as what he used to be described, but expressed it by texturing method similar to that of landscape paintings.
