Abstract: Traditional Chinese painter Xu Xi, grandson of Xu Wen, father of Xu Chongsi, was born in Jin Ling, in the Southern Tang Kingdom of Five Dynasties period. Xu Xi was so good at birdandflower paintings that he was unprecedented ever since. The paper studies Xu's special painting skill, LuoMo (ink wash) style, and finds out that Xu Xi did not outline a shape by strong black lines as what he used to be described, but expressed it by texturing method similar to that of landscape paintings.
