Nostromo is publicly recognized as the representative work of Conrad. Skepticism is the main theme that runs through the whole story. By analyzing the skepticism embodied in the novel and the psychology of Conrad, this paper attempts to reveal that skepticism does not only mark the beginning of the transformation of Conrad’s novel writing, but also provide the novel with a profound significance of intellectual history.
