Abstract:

Driven by the rapid evolution of the Internet and artificial intelligence, the digital space has emerged as a novel arena for the Chinese language international communication, with social media and short videos serving as pivotal pathways to enhance communication efficacy. Evidence from YouTube and TikTok reveals that Chinese language teaching short videos still exhibit substantial room for improvement across user engagement metrics—such as view counts, likes, and comments—as well as in terms of content volume and quality, indicating that their overall communicative influence warrants further strengthening. Currently, the structural dilemmas facing the Chinese language international communication lie in three key areas: the challenge of balancing the professional attributes of Chinese language pedagogy with the platform dynamics of social media; the misalignment between the algorithmic logic of social media and the practical demands of Chinese language international communication; and the tension in reconciling the non-profit operations of Chinese language communication entities with the necessity of commercial monetization. To address these challenges, there is an urgent need to construct a tailored omni-media communication system. This requires establishing a dual-track production mechanism characterized by a “professional core with platform adaptation,”developing an intelligent technology system optimized for Chinese language international communication, and exploring diversified and hierarchical modes of innovative management.
