Abstract:
Cultural image is a crucial pillar supporting a nation’s overall image. It arises from the abstraction and conceptualization of tangible cultural symbols and can be assessed through specific indicators. In international Chinese textbooks, the cultural image emerges from a complex mechanism of formation and dissemination, which can be deconstructed using a“two-system, three-dimension, four-layer”analytical framework. The“two-system”component refers to the cultural content orientation system and the cultural presentation system. The“three-dimension”component corresponds to the spatial, temporal, and attribute aspects of cultural content orientation, while the“four-layer”addresses cultural presentation in terms of distribution, methods, emotional attitudes, and perspectives. In the new era, reshaping the cultural image in international Chinese textbooks requires adherence to three principles: emphasizing the breadth, depth, and density of cultural content selection and presentation; focusing on research paradigms that integrate multiple disciplines, methods, and modalities; and establishing a research perspective that aligns with specific audiences, goals, and content.
Key words: international Chinese textbooks, cultural image, content orientation, presentation mechanism, deconstruction, reconstruction
