Abstract: As the birthplace of early Chinese films and film theories, Shanghai is also a window showing modern Chinese city culture to the world. Despite some paradoxes developed during the evolution process, Shanghai early film theories, through active participation in the modern construction of Shanghai city culture, are closely associated with city culture. This paper studies the relationship between early film theories and cityculture construction, deepens the understanding of how early film theories have influenced the growth of modern Chinese film theories and intelligent cities, thus contributes to the connotation construction of modern film theories and intelligent cities in China.
