Abstract:
The “Broom Woman for Fine Days”, a feminine papercut in red or green gown with a whiskbroom in her hand, is suspended from the eave or the tree so as to pray for fine days when facing an unbroken spell of wet weather. It is a popular custom among the people that is carried on to this day from the ancient time, and there are many documental records in the Northeast, North China and most southern areas. This essay mainly describes the image of the “Broom Woman for Fine Days”, discusses her immortal orientation and explores the implied meaning of this custom.
