Abstract: The repeated bisyllable verb can be traced back to the works of the early Ming Dynasty or before it, which, in all, has four patterns including eight froms: Basic (ABAB/ABAB), back object (ABABO/ABABO), middle object (ABOAB/ABOAB) and already (AB 了AB/AB 了AB 了). This article makes a detailed analysis of all these and points out that the first two patterns of the repeated bisyllable verb didn't take shape until the middle or late Qing Dynasty.
